Solving World Problems...Or Games

Our world has so many challenges to overcome. Al Gore reminds us that we will all be living in a hot and steamy world swarming with hurricanes and snow capped mountains will be a thing of the past. Iraq is a mess. People are still going hungry. AIDS is still a big problem and Saturday Night Live is no longer funny.

However we as a planet have solved some things. Our ipods can now hold more music than we will ever listen to. GPS lets us never again ask for directions. And you can buy robots that will clean your floor at Wal-Mart. And now scientist have finally solved that age old problem of beating checkers. That's right. Checkers. No, not the fast food chain, I'm talking the "King Me!" version. But isn't it kind of a let down. Can you imagine teaching checkers for the fist time to a child and warning him..."remember, that no matter how good you get at this game you cannot ever beat the checkers computer." Theoretically you can tie if you play perfectly, but there's never been much satisfaction in a tie.
